Everyone has their own training methods... with
this said, this is how I train my young to trap.
At 21-25 days old, I move them to the kit box. When moved to the kit box, this is where the training starts.
At this early age, hand feeding is a must for some birds.
When you hand feed them, make sure you whistle.
Keep on whistling until you are finish feeding or until you’re
tired. Keep this up until
they know how to eat themselves. At
this time, I have also been training them how to trap thru the trap door
with bobs. I would force each
young one by one thru the trap door at least 5 times a day.
Once they are all in the kit box, I will give them the feed whistle
and toss a couple of grains for them to peck at.
Once they know how to eat, make sure you whistle every time you
throw feed for them. This is
also the time you need a feed tray. Throw
a little feed, whistle. This
is all you need to know. Keep
this up until they are old enough to fly about.
Make sure you never feed them before you let them out and about. Give them all they can eat until they know how to fly about.
They should trap in when you whistle or don't the individuals that didn't.
To what you mentioned, you're sure training them early.
It's quite simple-keep them hungry. As
a team, they all eat at the same time.
Never feed any that don't trap in when it's suppose to.
Remember they are a team and the owner/trainer is you.
If you see one bird that is messing up the team’s routine, it's
your job to cull or isolate.
